Europe is undergoing a period of profound geopolitical and social transformation. How is the European Union changing in the face of the prospect of enlargement? What role do relations with China play in the future of international cooperation? And what does this mean for political education in Europe?

These questions will be explored in an international online webinar organised by the European Academy Berlin in collaboration with the European Network for Education and Training e.V.(EUNET), BBAG e.V. and the Europe Direct centres in Berlin and Potsdam/Brandenburg an der Havel.

The aim of the event is to strengthen public discourse on the future of Europe, promote democratic skills and deepen cross-border cooperation between European education stakeholders.

The programme combines expert insights with dialogue-oriented and participatory formats:

In the first part of the event (09:00 – 10:30 am (CEST)), the prospects and challenges of EU enlargement will be discussed against the backdrop of current geopolitical developments. Willem Noë (an expert on EU integration and enlargement, a member of the European Commission’s Team Europe Direct and a long-standing economic expert on this subject within the Commission) will provide an input on this topic.

The second part (03:00 – 4:30 pm (CEST)) will focus on relations between Europe and China and their significance for the future shape of international cooperation. Dr. Mikko Huotari, Director of the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), has been invited to speak on this topic.

The webinar is aimed at the interested public, opinion leaders from the fields of political education, academia and civil society, as well as representatives of European networks in the field of non-formal education. Both parts of the event can be attended independently of one another.

Participation is free of charge. As the webinar is aimed at participants from various countries, the event will be held in English.
