European Future Summits 2018

A scenario workshop series on the future of Italy, France and Germany

How can the future of the European Union be designed? What opportunities are there, how can current challenges be overcome and crises turned around in a positive way?

The European Future Summits at the European Academy of Berlin bring together young experts, policy makers and activists who address these questions and develop sound contributions to ongoing debates on key issues in European politics. Fostering far-reaching and inclusive debates on the future of Europe and shaping this future in common account for the overarching objectives of this project.

The project consists of three scenario workshops – the European Future Summits – and a corresponding evening event. During the workshops, the participants explore major developments and events in European politics, economy and society, while exploring and developing scenario-making as a format of participatory and progressive dialogue.

Each workshop focuses on one European country. At the centre of this year’s European Future Summits are three large and influential EU member states: Italy, France and Germany. Which economic, political and social challenges will these countries face and how can they contribute to sustainably deepen European integration?

By way of crafting a number of future scenarios, outlining prospective pathways of each country, the project not only responds to individual issues on the national level, but also provides a comparative view on key developments in Europe today. It determines important future challenges, pitches alternative courses of action, and brings new pathways in European integration to the fore.

Further information on the project as well as calls for participation for each workshop will be posted on this website (please see links below).

The European Future Summits Project takes place with support of the Federal Foreign Office.
