
Dr. Mechthild Baumann is programme manager and works on migration, security, justice, participation and women’s empowerment. In 2007 she founded the Institute for Migration and Security Studies in 2007, which provides studies, policy advice and further education on migration and security. In addition, she lectures at the University of Potsdam, the Hertie School of Governance and the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA), Paris. She is member of the “Team Europe” of the European Commission and the European Parliament and co-founder of the women’s network “Europeans in Berlin”.
Mechthild Baumann completed her studies in political science by gaining a French-German MA (Diplom) at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris in 2000 and a German MA (Diplom) at the Otto-Suhr-Institut / Free University of Berlin in 2001. In 2005 she completed her PhD on the Europeanisation of external border management in Germany. During her post-graduate time she was member of the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences (Humboldt University of Berlin), and was financially supported by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).
